Catching up with you

It has been a while since my last blog and I wanted to make sure no one thought I had forgotten how to do this. Recently we had a family emergency and found out my youngest has Epilepsy. My wife and I were scared and did not know exactly what to do. So, to calm my nerves I reached out to my Social Media family. The feedback was reassuring and helped us pull through the ordeal. It still amazes me that I have seen social engagement go from ladies sitting and conversing about the neighborhood gossip on the front porches of rural America to the infamous “Party Line” of the 80’s to internet chat rooms of the late 90’s and early 2000’s to Myspace and then Facebook and a plethora of other Social Media sites. And then with the advent of today’s “smart phones” you have access to the Social Media world 24/7. One person can put out a cry for help and seconds later get a response from a friend, does not matter if they are next door or a 1000 miles away.
I thought that the internet would put a big gap between the generation of people born before the 1950’s and anyone born after that but, I have seen people who were born in the 20’s and 30’s explore and embrace Social Media to stay in touch with friends and family near and far. I have seen Social Media reunite old friends, lost family members and stolen property. And yes I have even seen the darker side of Social Media, the cat fights, cheating and stalkers.
Social Media is a powerful tool and, as with any tool, when used properly can bring about a lot of good things. Small Businesses need to learn how to use this tool. I have seen small businesses grow when they start to utilize Social Media. Now some of you can jump right in and figure it out on your own, and that is awesome. But, if you want a little more guidance I can help. GMG Social Media Consulting is my business and I am here to help. I can help you navigate your way through all the Social Media hype out there. I can help you chose what is best for your business and how to stay connected to your customer as well as grow your customer base.
